QUILTING

Why should you pick up sewing?

  • It’s hands-on, creative, and deeply satisfying—turning your ideas into something tangible you can wear, use, or gift.

  • It sharpens your skills - working with fabric, tools, and techniques develops precision and control.

  • Sewing strengthens focus and coordination, whether you’re guiding fabric by hand or on a machine.

  • It builds confidence and independence while giving you practical knowledge about how garments and textiles are made - deepening your appreciation for craftsmanship and sustainability.

  • It cultivates patience, problem-solving, and perseverance - qualities that spill over into every part of life.

  • As we age, sewing keeps the mind engaged and memory sharp, offering both mental stimulation and a calming sense of purpose.

  • Our sewing studio is fully equipped with everything you’ll need for your sewing class.

    • Our adjustable-height sewing table accommodates makers of all ages - children and adults - whether sitting or standing.

    • We have 10 sewing machines and 1 overlock machine.

    • There’s 1 machine that can do basic embroidery, like small letters.

    • Plenty of thread and hand sewing needles.

    • Plenty of different presser feet.

    • Muslin for draping and professional dotted pattern paper. If you use more than ½ yard, please contribute $1 to our supply jar.

    • A fabric room (!!!) with a selection of fabric free for your projects, plus other pieces available for $1–3 per yard to help us replenish and keep the studio stocked. Everything from cotton knit, to 100% silk, leather, twill, velvet, wool, tulle, and so much more.

    • Buttons, elastics, twill tapes, bias tapes, zippers, snaps, handbag hardware… and more.

  • We like our studios to be roomy, spacious, and safe for everyone. Our regular classes are usually only 2-5 sewers. Perhaps 6, if more advanced.

  • Yes, in our Parlor.

We recommend that parents and guardians stay outside of the “classroom”.

  • Yes.

You’re welcome to bring your own machine. If you have the manual, bring it along just in case. You may also use one of our fully equipped studio machines.

  • Absolutely. Bring your patterns, your questions, and whatever you’re currently working on. Just make sure you have all necessary notions (specialty zippers, trims, elastic, etc.), as we may not carry every specific item.

    • Wash your hands before sewing.

    • Wash again before eating and after eating if returning to your project.

    • Respect shared tools, shared space, and fellow makers.

    • No food in the sewing or cutting rooms.

    • Water bottles are welcome.

    • Please do not dispose of food wrappers in sewing room baskets.

  • We have a well-stocked fabric room and storage area. Many materials are complimentary in small amounts.

    • Fabric: $2–$8 per yard (please ask — some pieces are truly special).

    • Buttons and zippers: small donation requested (50¢–$1) when taking more than a minimal amount.
