Scout Troop Workshops in New Providence, NJ
A troop outing with something to make.
Bring your troop to Sew Dandelions in New Providence for a hands-on creative workshop. We can plan an activity around a badge requirement or simply spend time learning a skill and making something they can take home.
Sewing, fashion design, draping, embroidery, and textile art are all possibilities. Tell us the ages, group size, and what you’re considering, and we’ll work out a project that fits.
The Scout Workshop:
Pricing & Reservations
Workshops generally cost $50–$60 per participant, depending on the project.
Your quote will include the activity, materials, session length, and group arrangements.
A $300 non-refundable reservation deposit secures your booking and is applied toward the total.
The remaining balance is due seven days before the event and becomes non-refundable at that time.
Please confirm your final participant count at least seven days before the event so materials can be prepared.
Reservations, Changes & Cancellations
A $300 non-refundable deposit secures your booking and is applied toward the total cost.
Seven days before the workshop, the full payment is due and becomes non-refundable. The confirmed participant count is used for billing and material preparation. We cannot issue refunds for absences or a reduced headcount after that deadline.
If you need to change the date, please contact us as soon as possible. Date changes depend on availability. Your deposit can transfer only if we can accommodate the new date.
If Sew Dandelions needs to cancel, you may choose an available replacement date or a full refund.
Session Length & Arrival
Troop workshops are two hours long unless otherwise agreed when booking. Please arrive five minutes early so everyone is ready to begin at the scheduled start time.
We begin together with instructions and any necessary equipment safety demonstrations. Late arrivals interrupt instruction and take time away from the rest of the troop, so please make sure all families know the arrival time.
We cannot restart the lesson or repeat the full demonstration individually. Anyone arriving more than 15 minutes late, or missing essential safety instruction, may be unable to participate. No refunds are provided for missed participation due to late arrival.
Workshops finish at the scheduled time and cannot be extended for late arrivals.
What can the troop do?
Projects depend on the participants’ ages, experience, and the time available.
Options may include:
Hand sewing and simple mending
Embroidery and textile embellishment
Fashion illustration and design
Draping fabric on mannequins
A beginner sewing-machine project (max 6 participants)
If your troop is working toward a particular badge, please send the requirements before we plan the workshop. We’ll identify which parts the studio activity can cover.
What Can Your Troop Do?
Every Sew Dandelions Scout Event includes a mix of fashion design, draping and textile art.
Your two-hour workshop can include a combination of the activities below. We’ll plan the visit around your troop’s ages, group size, and interests, allowing enough time to learn, experiment, and work on their projects. The activities may connect around a shared theme or badge requirement.
-
Small repairs are useful skills to have.
Scouts learn to thread a needle, tie a knot, and practice stitches before using them to attach a button, close a small opening, or sew on a patch.
We’ll choose the techniques and project to suit their ages and experience.
-
Give a piece of fabric some personality.
Scouts sketch or choose a simple design, then learn how to stitch it using a hoop and embroidery floss.
Depending on the project, they may add beads, sequins, feathers or fabric shapes, experimenting with color, texture, and placement as they work.
-
What would you design, and who would wear it?
Scouts put their ideas on paper, exploring silhouettes, colors, and details.
Fabric samples can help them imagine how their designs would look and feel.
No drawing experience is needed, and this activity can lead into draping on the mannequins.
-
Scouts work directly with fabric on small dress forms, folding, pinning, gathering, and layering to create a design in three dimensions.
They can change the shape, move things around, and try another idea as they go.
We’ll introduce safe pin handling and help them explore how different fabrics behave.
-
For groups of up to six (6) participants:
Scouts will learn the basics of using a sewing machine and work on a small beginner project.
We’ll cover safe operation, guiding fabric, and stitching seams, using prepared project pieces to make the most of our time.
Machine sewing takes a larger portion of the two-hour session. We’ll choose any additional activities accordingly.
Larger troops interested in machine sewing will need separate sessions with no more than six participants each.
-
A color. An era. A movie mood. Underwater creatures. Candy couture. Botanical weirdness. Outer space. Street style. Something nobody else has thought of yet.
Tell us what your troop is into, and we’ll build a creative workshop around it, with our own Sew Dandelions take.
We create original themes rather than copying party-store packages or licensed characters.
Themes that need extra materials or preparation may cost a little more. We’ll include any additional cost in your quote before you book.
