You go to a craft store, just to find yourself staring at a wall full of needles, wondering why there are so many different types. Buying sewing needles shouldn’t be a guessing game, and knowing the difference between needle sizes and styles can truly make or break your project. The first step to achieving a fantastic result is understanding the difference between machine needles and hand-sewing needles and when to use them.

Fabric is all around us. Countless things in our daily lives are made out of fabric, including clothes, curtains, bags, and much more. But what’s the difference between certain fabrics? Why is cotton sometimes used instead of polyester, or vice versa? The answer to this question lies in the three main categories of fabric: natural, synthetic, and semi-synthetic. 

On Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 4:30pm (doors open at 4:00pm), Sew Dandelions will present Runway Rebels SS26, a dynamic fashion show featuring original collections created and modeled by local talent, aged 8–15. The event takes place at 309 South Street, New Providence, NJ 07974.

Students have spent weeks sketching, draping, sewing, and crafting their own mini-collections to present onstage.

As the year comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve had together in 2024. From our slow, first few stitches of January to the bold creations of October, November and December.

Originally from Japan, Maasa is a creative powerhouse—not only is she a skilled knitter and crocheter, but she’s also a graphic animator and artist. Her talents don’t stop there; she’s an expert weaver and even holds a Cottage License to bake and sell her exquisite cookies and baked goods. I sat down with Maasa to learn more about her fascinating journey and how she balances all of her creative pursuits.
