Sewing Introduction - a prerequisite

  • Meet the Machine: First snips. First stitches. First wins.

    • Max 4 students.

    • Class WILL run with only 1 student.

  • Cost: $95 - 2 classes, all materials included.

    Vibe: Super foundational. Total beginner.

Students will “master” the absolute basics: threading, starting, stopping, and sewing a simple, clean seam while building the muscle memory they’ll need to conquer bigger projects ahead.

    • No experience needed.

    • Materials provided.

    • Small group setting - tons of one-on-one (max 4 students).

  • Learn how to vibe with the machine. Sew a muslin sewing sample with seam joining.

    • Learn: threading, machine control, basic straight stitch, turning corners. The flow, the feel, the logic of assembly.

    • Focus: slow mastery of "how fabric + machine = creation."

Every mistake is a badge of honor. We’re not chasing perfection. We’re chasing muscle memory.

Sewing 1: Tote Bag

  • Know the machine: Grab the thread. All materials included.

    • Small group setting - tons of one-on-one (max 4 students).

    • Class WILL run with only 1 student.

  • Cost: $210 - 4 classes, all materials included.

Students will continue to perfect absolute basics: threading, starting, stopping, and sewing a simple, clean seam.

    • Sewing INTRO Prerequisite is necessary to progress to Sewing 1.

    • Materials provided.

    • Small group setting - tons of one-on-one (max 4 students).

  • Step into your second creative uprising.

Kiddos will level up from first cuts to full-blown construction: they’ll transform fabric into a custom tote bag - learning how flat panels become 3D pieces you can actually use.

    • Straight seams, boxed corners, and topstitch reinforcement.

    • Command the sewing machine with confidence: pivot, pivot, PIVOT!

    • Embrace “happy accidents” as part of the design.

    • Learn the art of cutting fabric properly.

    • Try out (and fall in love with) the serger/overlock to finish seam allowances in a flash.

Vibe: Now you’re carrying your ideas around with you - ready to run to Sewing 2?

Sewing 2: Pillow Case

  • The machine is your friend: Shape it. Stitch it. Show it off. All materials included.

    • Small group - max 4 students.

    • Class WILL run with only 1 student.

  • Cost: $235 - 3 classes, all materials included.

    • As always, all materials provided - and this is a large life-size pillow.

    • Small group and tons of one-on-one.

  • Suite 2 is where flat skills morph into cozy reality. Kiddos will take fabric and conjure their very own high-end looking, luxurious pillow case.

Students will continue and expand their sewing machine knowledge in threading and in addition to sewing simple, clean seams, will practice top stitching, and creating crisp edges that withstand daily use.

    • Perfect long straight seams and edge turning.

    • Practice precision: alignment, seam allowance consistency.

    • Teaches essential finishing skills.

    • Longer lines to practice your perfect cutting skills.

By the end of Suite 2, students take home a functional pillowcase. It’s proof they can shape fabric into real-world comfort. They’ll be primed to tackle wearable projects in Suite 3.

Vibe: Turning simple skills into useful magic.

Sewing 3: Shorts

  • From threads to threads: Wear your work.

    • Small group - max 4 students.

    • Class WILL run with just one student.

  • Cost: $235 - 3 classes, all materials included.

    • This module is perfect for repeating if your kiddo is loving sewing but not ready for the next level just yet.

    • If repeating, they will work on a different wearable project than Sewing 3 newcomers, and they will be more independent.

    • Materials provided.

  • Suite 3 is the ultimate beginner crescendo.

Sewers will assemble pieces into their first wearable garment: elastic-waist shorts.

They’ll try out working from a pattern, adjust pattern to their measurements, sewing slight curves, join complex seams, and install waistbands - stepping fully into the world of clothing creation.

    • Learn to sew curved seams with confidence (crotch and side seams).

    • Install and encase elastic waistbands.

    • Align pieces symmetrically for proper fit.

    • First true wearable piece: massive confidence boost

At the end of Sewing Suite 3, each student walks away in shorts they made themselves and the boldness to enter the Sample Studio Level.

Vibe: Making your own clothes = sewing is a superpower. Big proud energy - "I MADE THIS" feeling.

Sewing 4: Zip it.

  • Sew it. Zip it. Rock it.

    • Small group - max 4 students - unheard of!

    • Class WILL run with just one student.

  • Cost: $135 – 2 classes, 90 minutes each. All materials included.

  • TBD

Construction & Design Lab

Advanced Fashion Studies | Ages 9–13

  • The Construction & Design Lab is the highest level of technical study within the Sew Dandelions youngest sewer/designer program.

Students move beyond project-based sewing into structured, fashion-focused training that reflects the early foundations of design education at higher institutions.

    Curriculum Includes:

    • Advanced garment construction

    • Professional seam finishes & closures

    • Structural shaping (darts, bias, fit logic)

    • Introductory draping techniques

    • Fashion illustration as design communication

    • Production concepts: sampling, revisions, workflow

Students are expected to work independently, think critically, and execute with precision.

    Each 90-minute session includes:
    • 45-60 minutes of technical instruction
    • 30-45 minutes of studio development (project)

  • The Construction & Design Lab is designed as ongoing technical training.

    Enrollment Options

    • 10 Sessions
      $840
      $84 per session
Savings of approximately 25% compared to private lessons

    • 20 Sessions (30 hours)

Best Value for students participating weekly
      Savings of approximately 36%

    • Offered 2–3 times weekly. Registration required per session.

Each week introduces new concepts, techniques, and areas of study, allowing students to build knowledge gradually through repeated exposure and practice—similar to the step-by-step learning approach used in Montessori and Suzuki-style education.

Students may join at any point once accepted into the program.

Consistent participation is strongly encouraged, as technical proficiency develops through repetition and long-term practice.

Enrollment Options: 10-Class Package, 20-Class Package, 30-Class Package - Offered 2–3 times weekly. Registration required per session.

Purchased sessions are valid for one year from the date of purchase.

  • The Construction & Design Lab is reserved for students who have completed the Sew Dandelions foundational sewing sequence, and have surpassed 25 hours of supervised sewing.

    Students must have successfully completed:

    • Intro to Sewing

    • Sewing 1

    • Sewing 2

    • Sewing 3

    • Sewing 4

    • Sewing 5

Because this is an advanced, highly independent studio environment, students are expected to arrive with strong machine skills, construction knowledge, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

At this level, students should have access to a sewing machine at home and a workspace where they can work with fabric between classes.

    Placement is by instructor approval.

  • The Construction & Design Lab introduces students to the technical foundations of fashion design, including:

    • garment construction

    • structural techniques

    • introductory draping

    • fashion illustration.

Students begin to understand how designers develop ideas, build samples, and move a design from concept to finished garment.

Occasional conversations with working designers and industry professionals may also be incorporated, offering students a glimpse into the broader fashion world.

This program is not about perfection. Students will not leave as tailors, illustrators, or master drapers. These are foundational steps—skills and ideas that take years to refine. The goal is to introduce the discipline, language, and creative thinking that form the long-term practice of fashion design.

Rather than focusing on finished projects, the emphasis is on process and technique.

  • This program is designed for students who are already confident and independent at the sewing machine.

    Students should be comfortable:

    • Operating a sewing machine without assistance

    • Following multi-step construction instructions

    • Understanding seam allowance and basic garment structure

    • Working independently for extended periods of time

    • Managing tools, fabric, and materials responsibly

Students in this lab are expected to think through (age-appropriate) construction problems, experiment with solutions, and work with increasing independence.

If you’re unsure whether your child is ready, feel free to reach out. We’re happy to help guide you to the right next step.

FaQ.

  • Yes. Drop-off is absolutely fine. Please be prompt for pick-up.

  • Yes. You’re welcome to relax in our Parlor while class is in session.

If you’d prefer to sew alongside your child, you can also book a private two-person session and participate together. Yay!

  • A water bottle. They always ask for water. No food during sewing sessions, however. Water is allowed in a closed water bottle.

If they have a favorite pair of scissors or a personal sewing kit they love, they’re welcome to bring it — but it’s not required.

  • No. We are a fully stocked studio with machines and tools ready to go.

If your child has a machine they’d like to learn on, they may bring it. We’ll help them set it up properly.

  • No. We have a large assortment of fun, kid-friendly fabrics available.

If they’re working on something very specific and want to bring their own fabric, that’s welcome too.

  • Lucky them.

If a group class runs with just one student, they receive a private lesson for the group rate. Win-win.

The owner is the instructor. Always. Your child is in experienced hands.

  • For safety.

We may lock the building entry door or the studio door if we are not expecting additional arrivals. When younger children are in session, we sometimes secure the building so they can move to the bathroom alone. Bathrooms are located in the hallway of the building.

If the door is locked, simply ring the doorbell by the parking lot entrance or the studio door inside the building. It’s quick, easy, and ensures your child’s safety.

Your child’s safety and comfort are our priority. Classes are small, structured, and led by the studio owner, Dominique.

Entry doors may be secured during sessions, and students are supervised at all times.

A calm, focused, but fun studio designed with children in mind.
